Reading by the pool or beach is one of my all time favorite things to do. And this summer there are some awesome books I can’t wait to get my hands on.
Most of these books are brand new, but there are some oldies that I just haven’t gotten around to reading. You can bet each book is definitely a good beach read.
What makes a good “beach” read? For me, it’s a combination of some light-hearted fiction (ya know boy meets girl, they fall in love, boy fucks it up, but they live happily ever after) & thrillers where the wife most likely killed the husband because he was a douchebag.
Some of the books on the list have been praised as being revolutionary & depicting modern day families. One of the books I’m super excited to read is The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett. There has been so much buzz surrounding this novel. It’s about two twin sisters & the very different lives they lead. This novel is full of contemporary issues such as family life, racial divide & how your past can mold your future.
As promised, I will be showcasing more titles written by Black authors. There are some pretty awesome titles from Black authors on this list (including the book above & These Ghosts Are Family by Maisy Card) that I’m excited to dive into. Also, supporting Black owned small bookstores is important. Small bookstores need our help more than ever & one way to help support is purchasing your books through Bookshop.org. This website donates a portion of profits to small local bookstores all over the country! Check out my shop HERE.
