Summer entertaining is the theme of this week!
As you know from my previous post this week, On Island Time: Summer Entertaining Made Easy– my talented friends & I are sharing ways to entertain this summer. William (from William Lyon Designs), Alicia (from Dorset & Pond) & I dreamt up this classic, casual New England tablescape.
Mixing different shades of blue, white & sand tones is always a win in my book. This approachable color scheme is inviting, relaxing & just screams summer. You can never go wrong with blue & white.
For the base of our table, the tablecloth, we paired together two very different fabrics to create a fun, striped tablecloth. When all else fails- have your tablecloth made! I know it seems like a daunting task- but with the right fabrics & a fabulous workroom- it can simple & easy. A huge thank you to Yardstick Decor for whipping this up for us!
Now every table needs florals!
But if you are like me & don’t always like shelling out a ton of money for flowers, here’s a tip. Clip them from your yard! These fun four prong vases were items we already owned & then we simply cut hydrangeas from a friend’s yard. Easy but beautiful & most importantly FREE!
Onto the fun woven placemats. Don’t be afraid of pattern. Alicia found these AMAZING handmade placemats sourced from Uganda. Made from all natural materials (raffia & banana fibers), these placemats bring texture & are a bold layering element to the table. I love them paired with the classic bamboo flatware we chose!
The fun DIY element we chose for this table are the custom tie dyed napkins. Instead of the traditional swirl or dip dye- we chose to dye these in a striped manner. Each one is a bit different which makes them that much more special. You can purchase our creations at Dorset & Pond. Again, I also created watercolor background placecards.
Lastly, add a bit of whimsy to your table. The vintage pineapple candle holders are fun & add height to the table. Pineapples are also a traditional symbol of hospitality, perfect for our summer entertaining theme.
The most important part is to enjoy time with loved ones. Create a space where you can eat, drink & laugh together. Now, more than ever is the time to cherish your friends & family and the time you get to spend with them.
