I had my first experience with Sugi Acupressure a few weeks ago & it was life changing. What is Sugi Acupressure exactly? Well it’s an alternative form of bodywork that encompasses healing energy being transferred throughout by touching upon various points all over your body. I would describe it as a mix between going to the chiropractor & getting a massage. This one of a kind system (created by Dr. Injae’s father) helps to relieve a variety of symptoms, from chronic pain to anxiety. Instead of focusing on aligning your bones (like a chiropractor), Sugi Acupressure focuses on massaging the soft tissues & muscles supporting your skeletal system. By manipulating these ligaments, Dr. Injae can find the source of your pain or discomfort.
I had never had any previous experience with alternative pain relief before & never have been to the chiropractor. If I had an ache or pain, I would pop an Advil & keep it moving. I would say in the past 6 months, my lower back pain has increased as well as an ache within my right hip. These pains have affected my sleep cycle as well as simple tasks such as laying in bed & reading a book. I favor laying on my right side, but it has become somewhat unbearable the last few months.
When I heard about Dr. Injae’s practice & his alternative approach to pain, I jumped at the chance to make an appointment. Taking any kind of medication in order to just ignore the root of the problem, just doesn’t sit well with me anymore. In researching Dr. Injae’s practice more, I like how he not only focused on your problem area- but also did a full body work up to reset & balance your body.
During my appointment, Dr. Injae had me lying on a mat on the floor in his studio (he also has offices in NYC). He touched upon pressure points from my feet to my neck. He even stood on my legs & back and performed various stretches. I’m not going to lie, some points he touched were more painful than others. But I felt immediate relief after my 45 minute appointment.
Like I said before, Dr. Injae treats a variety of conditions other than pain:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Digestion issues
- Weight management
- Bladder & kidney function
- Sports injuries
- Insomnia
I will definitely be making a follow up appointment (once my budget allows) to continue to treat my lower back pain & pain in my right hip. I can say that I genuinely feel so much better just from one appointment. The deep, intense stretches & massage have eased the pain, especially in my lower back.
