Today is Eva’s birthday- she turns 5!
Now bear with me, Eva is the closest thing I have to a child right now & I certainly treat her like one. I never knew I needed or wanted a pet until she came into my life. I’ve never been an animal person & was pretty scared of dogs pretty much my whole life. Then this little ball of fur showed up in my life unexpectedly & everything changed. You can read more about my first time meeting Eva here.

Eva can be sweet yet sassy & sometimes a pain in the ass (basically me in dog form). She’s full of cuddles, kisses & knows exactly when I need them. Eva has the biggest personality & legit cracks me up every single day. Most people don’t get to see the sweet side of her (sorry to everyone she has ever verbally attacked with her snarls & barks- she means well I promise) so today I wanted to share why Alex & I love Eva so damn much.

So a lot of parents write letters to their kids on their birthdays- well here’s my open letter to Eva on her fifth birthday:
Dear Eva,
I can’t believe you are five years old. I remember my first time meeting you. We were both a little unsure of each other. I was scared, but you instantly made me fall in love.
You make every day interesting. I never know if I’m going to come home to an eaten shoe, a turd on the carpet or a well behaved dog laying patiently for me on the sofa. You always know when I had a tough day & just want to be loved on. Or when I’m in a good mood & want to go for a long walk and play a bit. Regardless of how I feel, you always put a smile on my face. The over the top greeting you give me when I get home from work is something I always look forward to.
You have taught me patience (especially when you take FOREVER to do your business outside), responsibility for someone other than myself and unconditional love. You have shown me a little inkling of what it means to be a Mom. And because of you, I can’t wait for that stage of my life (never thought I would say that).
Never change little girl (well maybe please stop barking as much as you do). Stay sassy & never stop being the fierce protector you are. You have helped a lot of people get through some tough moments & we all appreciate the daily support you provide.
Here’s to many more morning belly rubs, cuddle & kisses, walks on the beach, vacations in Lake George & barking at every dog you see.
Love,
Mommy
