It’s a new year, so now is the time for most people to start working out & getting healthy.
I admit, every year I’m one of those people who vow to lose weight, exercise more & to eat healthy. And every year at some point I fail. I fall short & go back to my crappy eating habits. Or miss an exercise and then that snowballs into missing months of working out.
This year is different.
I think I’ve officially had it & want to make a lifestyle change. I need to find a balance that works for me. One of the things I am doing to kick-start this healthy start is participating in a “dry January.” If you are unfamiliar, a dry January consists of not drinking any alcohol whatsoever. After overindulging during the holidays- this is just what my body needs!
I’ve done a dry January once before & it really wasn’t that bad. First of all, I don’t drink tons of alcohol all the time. Maybe a few glasses of wine here or there during the week & then a few drinks if I go out with friends. Thankfully, I never really have a ton of events going on in January. I tend to hibernate in the winter so having to go out & be the only sober person is not typically an issue for me.
If I do happen to be invited to a social event- I stick with either water or order a seltzer with lime. It looks like I’m having a cocktail but I’m really just hydrating the entire time!
I feel so much better when I eliminate alcohol completely.
I don’t have to worry about hangovers or waking up with a “wine headache.” I have more energy, wake up earlier & tend to be more active. I get way better sleep & my skin looks so much better. Weight loss is also typically a health benefit from abstaining from alcohol.
This is the kick start I need in order to keep up a healthy lifestyle this year. Don’t get me wrong- I have a bottle of Prosecco chilling in the fridge for February 1st. But this little “break” from alcohol will be a great reminder to enjoy things in moderation this year!
I hope everyone is enjoying the first week of 2019!
