You all know my affinity for a good soak in the bath tub. Well I took it up a notch & added a body scrub portion of my weekly routine.
Body scrubs are so important to incorporate into your weekly maintenance routine. Especially in the summer, it’s important to remove that layer of dead skin in order to properly hydrate your skin. Also, if you like to self tan, exfoliating is vital. Gotta get that skin clean & smooth before applying any self tanner!
I also use this scrub in the shower if I’ve been sitting in the sun all day with a ton of SPF on. I just feel like in order to get my mineral sunscreen completely off & make sure my pores aren’t clogged, I need to scrub my body head to toe.
During quarantine I’ve been trying to make my own products as much as possible to save money (remember my bath bombs & DIY bath soak), so of course I needed to try a body scrub. And I absolutely LOVE lemongrass. It’s an uplifting, relaxing scent that inspires clarity.
This DIY project utilizes things you already have in your pantry. I used white granulated sugar but you can certainly use brown sugar as well. Fractionated coconut oil is what I used, but you can also substitute that for almond oil or jojoba oil. Switch up the essential oils you use too. I chose Lemongrass & Citrus Fresh, but Lavender would be lovely as well.
I also store my scrubs in mason jars. This particular recipe will fill two 6 oz. mason jars (great for making as gifts for people).
- 1½ cups granulated sugar
- ¼ cups fractionated coconut oil
- 10 drops Lemongrass essential oil
- 10 drops Citrus Fresh essential oil
- Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Store in airtight containers or mason jars. This recipe fills two 6 oz. mason jars.
I realize DIY is not for everyone. If you simply want to purchase a clean body scrub that’s great for your skin, here are some of my recommendations:
