Skincare has been a huge focus of mine during this quarantine. So has saving money. So I’ve been experimenting with a bunch of DIY facial masks that you can easily make with ingredients in your kitchen.
There’s no reason to come out of this quarantine with shitty skin. We all have a little extra time on our hands to fit in a facial mask or two each week.
Of course I’m still using my regular everyday skincare products, but I’m trying to supplement with DIY facials instead of spending money on new face masks. Based on your skin needs, there are SO many different facial masks you can make using everyday items that you have stocked in your pantries.
Clean skincare & beauty is a passion of mine, so I’m all about using clean ingredients in my DIY masks. Knowing exactly what you’re putting on your skin is important & making your own masks takes the guess work out of that. Again, all of these ingredients are natural. No added chemicals or synthetics!
Some ingredients that are great to use on their own: egg yolk, banana & honey. Egg yolk has anti-aging and tightening properties. Banana believe it or not is a great exfoliator. Honey is great for moisturizing the skin & also clearing up acne. All three ingredients on their own are great to use, but I found some powerhouse recipes to use on a weekly basis.
Also, I love to use a brush when applying a mask. The one I have is old, but I found this one & this one that would work great!
Coconut Oil & Honey Mask (for hydration)
- 2 tsp. coconut oil
- 1 1/2 tsp. raw honey
- 1 drop lavender essential oil
Mix all ingredients in a small bowl. Don’t overtax or coconut oil will melt too much (put in fridge if this happens). Apply to clean skin. Leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with a washcloth soaked in warm water. Leaves skin extra hydrated plus honey is a great natural antimicrobial ingredient to help clear acne. Tip: this mask will start to melt quick due to your body heat. Stay in your bathroom while doing this one & be prepared for a few drips!
Coffee Mask (for exfoliation)
- 1 tbsp coffee grounds
- 1 tbsp milk (creamier the better ex: whole milk, coconut milk)
Mix ingredients in a small bowl & let sit for at least 5 minutes. Apply to clean skin. Leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with cold water & massage into skin. Leaves skin soft, smooth & helps calm redness.
Turmeric Face (for glowing skin)
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 1/2 tbsp avocado
Mix all ingredients in a small bowl. Apply to clean skin. Leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with a washcloth soaked in warm water. Leaves skin glowing & hydrated (great for getting rid of redness). Tip: This recipe masks enough for two masks. You can keep the excess mixture in your refrigerator for up two days.
There are SO many more recipes you can create but these are my favorite. The more I experiment with at home skincare, the more I will share with you my findings. Stay tuned for a follow up blog post!
