This sunny weather has been great…but have you been wearing your SPF everyday?
I cannot begin to tell you how important wearing SPF daily is. Even if you are staying indoors all day or its the dead of winter- wear your daily SPF.
That being said, you should really be mindful of what kind of SPF you are using daily. I made the switch to mineral sunscreen about two years ago. If you don’t know- mineral sunscreen is zinc oxide based & acts as a physical barrier between your skin & the sun. Other sunscreens tend to completely sink into your skin. Mineral sunscreens not only protect you from harmful UV rays but also blue light rays (the light that promotes premature aging, sun spots & wrinkles). Chemical sunscreens do not protect against this.
Mineral sunscreen is also getting better with the advances of technology. In the past, most mineral sunscreens left a white cast on your skin & wouldn’t completely rub in. Most formulas these days rub in completely & leave little to no traces.
I use quite a few sunscreens (on my face & body) and wanted to share what has been working for me.
First & foremost, BeautyCounter continues to have the best suncare in my opinion.
The new Countersun Daily Sheer Defense for Face has been AMAZING! It’s an everyday sunscreen for your face only that contains SPF 25. You can wear this over your current moisturizer as well as under makeup. It blends completely into your skin without leaving white residue. I put this on every single morning. If I am going to the pool or beach, I use the Countersun Mineral Sunscreen Stick over this (contains SPF 30).
In terms of everyday facial sunscreen, another option I’ve tried & absolutely love is the Supergoop Glowscreen with SPF 40. If you want a dewy look but also sun protection- I would recommend trying this! I love the glow this gives my skin. I often wear this without makeup. If you’re not into the glowy, dewy look- try the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen. It will give you the same amount of sun protection but with a matte finish.
For my body, I prefer sunscreen in spray form. I just feel it’s easier to rub in & faster to apply. My favorites include: Countersun Mineral Sunscreen Mist, Bare Republic Mineral Sunscreen Mist, or Sun Bum Mineral Continuous Sunscreen. All three of these options contain SPF 30 & are safer for you than chemical sunscreen.
Lastly, suncare doesn’t end at sunscreen.
It’s important to take care of your skin after being out in the sun all day. There’s nothing like a good cooling gel or lotion to rub all over your skin after a hot day in the sun. I love using the After Sun Cooling Gel (especially if you get a sunburn). It’s lightweight, soothing (contains aloe) & definitely gives your skin the hydration it needs after being exposed to the sun. Pro tip: keep it in your fridge for an extra cooling sensation.
Bottom line: enjoy the sun, but be smart about it. Wear your SPF everyday!
