I am continuing my clean living journey this year & want to share a few swaps that I have been making.
One tiny swap I made about 6 months ago was to ditch using dryer sheets. Dryer sheets are coated with chemicals that get transferred to your clothes which in turn can be absorbed by your skin. They emit a ton of chemicals that are related to asthma. And also could be a potential fire hazard.
Swapping out my dryer sheets for wool dryer balls has been such an easy yet effective swap. The wool balls cut down your drying time by retaining & transferring heat to your clothes. They also soften the fabric of your clothes as they are bouncing around in the dryer- eliminating the need for fabric softener.
Also, wool dryer balls last for about 1,000 loads of laundry. In other words- they will save you money in the end! I bought a pack of 3 wool dryer balls for about $9.99 at Marshalls. Once they start to pill or fall apart, that is when you know it’s time to replace them. Mine are still going strong after about 6 months of use (a little ratty looking but not falling apart).
If you previously used scented dryer sheets, you can get the same effect with these dryer balls. Just use about 2-3 drops of essential oils on each ball to have freshly scented laundry. My recommendations are either Young Living Lavender essential oil or their Purification blend oil.
I have noticed a bit more static sometimes since using the dryer balls, but have found an easy solution. Just get each ball a tad bit wet before using in the dryer which increases the humidity in the dryer therefore reducing static. Works like a charm!
Stay tuned for more little swaps you can make in your daily routine in order to live a healthier, cleaner life!
