August was a SLOW month of reading for me.
For some reason, I started a bunch of books but just couldn’t get into them. The three books I did read however, were excellent. Two of them were a bit old so I’m late to the party on that. All three were drastically different (I really don’t have a “type” when it comes to books)- one was a sweet tearjerker, one was about a dark twisted secret that won’t go away and the other was a mystery with lots of twists & turns.
THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN by Garth Stein
If you are a dog lover, you’ll love this book. It was written from the perspective of a dog which I thought was very interesting. I’m always wondering what my dog is thinking, so I found this book really funny and heartwarming. Be prepared to cry- it gets a bit emotional in some parts. Ok it gets emotional for like 70% of the book. I was literally sobbing at some points. I mainly read this book because the movie came out & I always believe in reading the book first! Definitely an easy read & I highly recommend.
LUCKIEST GIRL ALIVE by Jessica Knoll
So I’ve had this book on my bookshelf forever & finally gave it a go. It was SO good. Just a warning- the subject matter is dark so just be prepared. A haunting secret from Ani’s past has forced her to reinvent herself. She now has the perfect life- great job, loving fiancé. Or does she? Does her secret set her free or ruin her life? If you are into suspenseful story lines, this book is for you. This was Jessica’s debut novel & I cannot wait to read her latest book- The Favorite Sister. I need to give myself breaks in between mystery/suspense novels because they totally get in my head & give me the most f’ed up dreams!
SUNSET BEACH by Mary Kay Andrews
I LOVED this book. It combined a mixture of whit & charm with a few mysterious twists! Drue moves back to her father’s hometown after her mother passes away & tries to mend her relationship with him. She takes a job at his law office & ends up getting very involved in one of the cases that is a supposed dead end. Between juggling her move, trying to get to know her father all over again & solving crimes- Drue’s life is anything but boring. This is a great beach read or more like cozy up with a blanket on a crisp day read! Mary Kay Andrews is best known for her beach reads that generally take place in the south. Definitely check out her other titles if you enjoyed this book!
